Emily Gertenbach is Principal at (e.g.) creative content. In this role, I help MarTech & B2B SaaS companies generate sustainable traffic growth through organic search. My work includes strategy, team training, technical content creation, and executive thought leadership ghostwriting—and you can indeed do the latter with an SEO focus!

I bring more than 15 years’ content creation experience and over 12 years’ SEO experience to the table. My clients’ results include wins such as a 225% month-over-month increase in site visitors, 63% more site visits from organic search, and outranking competitors on high-competition keywords in just four months.

The trick is that I my strategies on the human end user, not the algorithms in between. This means that not only do my clients see great results, rapidly, but they continue to see positive increases in traffic when Google releases updates that improve searcher experience (such as the Helpful Content Updates in 2022).

You can find me working from my home or coworking space in the greater Boston area. Once the workday’s done, I love visiting new restaurants (and old favorites!), reading thrillers and speculative fiction, stand-up paddleboarding, dabbling with embroidery or checking on my bees. Yes, bees — I’m also a backyard beekeeper with two honeybee hives!

I am currently booking new clients!

Advice For Anyone Joining The Industry?

If there’s something that doesn’t sit right with you, or doesn’t seem totally necessary to you, don’t hesitate to question it, explore it, and even call it out.

Sometimes (and I think this is true of a lot of industries) we get really fixed in how we do things, or place too much importance on one expert’s or company’s actions. You might just be on to something that’s new, different, and important to the set of people you’re going to want to work with.

Cool Fact

Something to know: I am really interested in data privacy, which can of course seem at odds with SEO. But I’m committed to continuing to learn and understand more about how we can optimize our sites without relying on granular and personal data from our users. I’m pretty pleased with how my strategy is going so far—I write more about this periodically on my blog.

Fun fact: I have a tattoo commemorating how incredibly bad I am at Mario Kart.
